Coaching for Leadership
I work as a Coach for the Centre for School leadership in Ireland, providing my services to Primary and Post-Primary leaders. Team Coaching is also available. In addition I offer independent coaching to leaders and aspiring leaders.
I work alongside the leader, acting as a confidential sounding board for them in a safe space. I Coach them by enabling them to use their skills, knowledge and experience to resolve personnel challenges, address issues specific to their context and strategise for the future of their organisations. Outcomes of my work with School Leaders have included:
enhanced self-awareness
identification of areas requiring development as well as Leadership strengths and possible routes to improvement
greater effectiveness in leading the development of strategic planning within the organisation
an improved understanding of the senior leader’s role in leading and coordinating teams with outcomes of greater trust, mutual support and collaboration
more effective and strategic delegation
increased awareness of how to develop leadership capacity
improved consultation with key partners
strategies for dealing with difficult team members
approaches to achieving greater accountability
“Denise’s Coaching clients rate her highly in evaluations and point to her easy manner as well as to her vast knowledge in education as the reasons they continue to engage her services and recommend her to others.”
Miriam Magner-Flynn – CEO Career Decisions
Interview Preparation
I work mainly – though not exclusively – with clients in Education. I provide a service for school principals, deputy principals and teachers who want to maximise their potential in relation to positions of promotion. I have a straightforward style which clients appreciate as they face tight deadlines for the application and interview stages. The secret is to identify your strengths and enable you to present those concisely and with maximum impact. My service is conducted in confidence and includes advice at all stages of the process. Clients who have used my services have received:
one-to-one attention
bespoke service aligned with their application and the role they are applying for
support to optimise their experience, knowledge and skills
scaffolding to help them present the best version of themselves
interview preparation including a mock interview
confidence to approach the process with self-belief
“Denise is intuitive. She possesses an outstanding ability to motivate and inspire. She uses her strong analytical skills to assess her clients’ abilities and qualities and guides them in developing a plan of action for their career.”
Betty Mc Laughlin – Former President, Irish Institute of Guidance Counsellors, Team Leader of Wellbeing and Regional Team Leader, Junior Cycle for Teachers Support Service
Curriculum Development
I was National Coordinator for Transition Year and also worked for five years as an Education Officer with the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment in Ireland (NCCA). I have worked with schools to develop their own short courses, with a Third Level Institution to implement recommendations following a course programmatic review and with Industry to design Transition Year courses in Ireland.
“In terms of the Irish education system this was a ground-breaking initiative and Denise led the work, including guiding the contributions of NCCA and external colleagues, in a confident, collegial fashion.”
John Halbert – Acting Deputy CEO National Council for Curriculum and Assessment
Working with large organisations
I work with schools and other organisations on a wide range of subject matter including areas such as opportunities for Student Voice in Schools and Corporate Social Responsibility openings for companies and large organisations..
I am comfortable working with all partners and have been complimented on my range of contacts, capacity for consultation, ability to draw on international research as well as for finding workable resolutions. I am particularly invested in the rights of children and young people as well as Universal Design for Learning and targeting Corporate Social Responsibility to make a difference.
“I was very impressed by Denise’s ability to lead a very complex process involving a wide range of education stakeholders. She has fine negotiating skills allied to enabling everyone to have their voice heard and validated.”
